Basically this information is to give you an idea of the
criteria by which you may be judged, so you can try to
address such issues.
Project mark sheet
For anyone, examiner, peer or industry, trying to evaluate
a project, they are likely to follow these main areas,
although perhaps with different titles and sequence
(incidentally, these follow the general chapter headings of
a report):-
1 - Ambition - how ambitious the
project
was, academically, algorithmically, technologically etc...
2 - Appreciation - did the student appreciate the specific
problem and general background area
3 - Approach - with due consideration to the previous 2
points, was the design approach devised reasonable and
suitable
4 - Attempt - was the attempted implementation of the
approach reasonably sound
5 - Achievement - to what extent were general goals
achieved
6 - Appraisal - was there a realistic review of the
project's strengths, weaknesses and 'aspirations' with the
benefit of hindsight, as to how it could be improved.
7 - Appearance - what was the overall impression of all
aspects of the project, including reports &
presentation on open day.
Please remember that these are guidelines, and although
they appear comprehensive, should a situations arise where
they are not applicable, examiners will tend to judge by the
spirit rather than the letter of the law, which is more
consistent and compassionate.
In other words, people have judgement and common sense,
which they apply in situations where no amount of
regulations could adequately cover, otherwise we could rely
on an entirely automated grading process, and automated
systems are notoriously harsh.
