Choosing a Search Engine

The most fundamental aspect in developing a strategy is to find a good search engine. When shopping around, look for one that has a reasonably comprehensive index. Most of the “big-name” databases such as Bing, Lycos, Yahoo and of course, Google, store information on a significant proportion of the Internet. It can sometimes be hard to determine how comprehensive a search engine is, but a good guide is to look for the sponsoring organisations - those with University affiliations and big-name sponsors are more likely to have more information.
