Assessment

20% of the marks available for this module are awarded as marks for in-class assessment. This assessment will be via two class tests, one at the end of term in December, and one at the end of the second term. Each class test will be scheduled in a lecture slot, and will last for approximately 45 minutes. Each test will contribute up to 10% of the total marks available for the module, and will examine all the material delivered in the corresponding term.

80% of the marks available for this module are awarded for performance in the end of year examination. The examination takes place at the end of May or beginning of June, and will last for three hours. It will cover all material delivered in CS1105, and also in the four introductory lectures.

As an example, the 2009-10 summer exam paper is available.

Class Tests

The first class test will be held on Wednesday 7th December in the 3pm lecture slot. This sample paper shows the type of questions that will be asked. The test will examine all material in lectures up until 23rd November. Solutions for the December sample class test are available.

The second class test will be held on Wednesday 21st March at 3pm in WGB107. A sample paper is available, and solutions are available. The test will examine all material from 28th November until 7th March.

The results for the two class tests are now available.

The solutions to that March class test are now available, with some explanations. I have also posted some brief revision notes based on the submitted scripts for that test.
