CS1102 Lab 4 Part II

This week's work

This week's work builds on last week's. You should therefore continue to place your work in cs1102\lab4.

The goal is to design a logo and a banner for your Bushkashi web site using the GIMP and to place them on your web site using fixed positioning to give a layout roughly as follows:

The logo should be a GIF image file and the banner should be a JPEG image file. Artistic flair (or lack of it) will not affect the grade you are awarded but does make the grading more enjoyable. Pay particular attention to image file size.

To help you, we have prepared a GIMP tutorial. Before you launch into creating your logo and banner, it might be best to first work through the tutorial, experimenting with the things that it explains.

Deadline: 1pm, Tuesday 13th November.

Checklist:

• Are you happy you have a clean separation between structural and presentational markup?
• Have you validated your XHTML? Have you validated your CSS?
• Did you use fixed positioning for the logo, banner and menu of links? Did you use absolute positioning for the right-hand images?
• Is your logo a GIF? Is your banner a JPEG? Did you try to keep their file sizes small?

To submit, you must zip your lab4 folder, like you did for lab 2: right-click on the folder; choose 'Send To'; choose 'Compressed (zipped) Folder'. If a little question pops-up, click Yes. On some machines in B10B the 'Send To' menu does not seem to contain an option for 'Compressed (zipped) Folder'. If so, change machine!

This will create lab4.zip, and it is this (not lab4) that you must submit. Choose LAB4 when prompted.

Challenge exercise

There's no separate challenge exercise this week. The GIMP is a rich enough resource to keep you fully occupied!
