CS5008/CS1069/CS6509 Assessment

Learning Outcomes:

The learning outcomes for CS5008, CS1069 and CS6509 are given in the UCC book of modules.

Module Content

Networking basics: history, components, packet switching, performance, architecture. Application layer protocols, including HTTP and peer-to-peer file sharing. Naming, including domain name system. Transport protocols, including TCP. Network security essentials.

Assessment

80% of the marks are for written examination/tests, 20% of the marks  are for assignments.

Assessment is formal and must be entirely your own work.

Pass standard

40%.

Exams/Tests

Assessment differs for CS5008, CS6509, and CS1069. Students taking CS5008 (Hi Dip ACT) and students taking CS1069 (Math Sci and visiting students) will have a formal exam timetabled and run by the examinations office. All these exams take place in Winter 2016.

Note that there will be two separate exam papers (labelled CS5008 and CS1069), but they will be identical in content. The exam is worth 80 marks (20 marks are for continuous assessment). The exams for CS5008 and CS1069 are 90 minutes. The format of the exam papers will be the same as that of last year's Summer papers for CS5008/CS1069. That is, 4 questions, no choice (See below).

Students taking CS6509 (MSc and PGDip DSA) have mid-term and end-of-term class tests. Dates and times will be confirmed in lectures (and in the news section of the course Website). The tests is worth 40 marks each (80 marks total) with 20 marks are for assignments.
